Brazilian truffles (Brigadeiro)
Brigadeiro is a common Brazilian delicacy, created in 1940, during the World War II (1939-1945). It is said that in the time it was difficult to find fresh milk and sugar to make desserts, but they have condensed milk and butter. So, the mixture of condensed milk, butter and chocolate powder result in this delicious (and very economic) truffle.
Ingredients
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons of cocoa powder (unsweetened)
1 tablespoon of butter + extra butter for lining a plate and lubricating your hands
1 cup of chocolate sprinkles (of good quality or shred milk chocolate) to evolve the truffles
Cooking directions
In a pan, mix the condensed milk with the powdered chocolate and butter in low heat. Continue to mix until the contents begin to boil and bubbles start forming. Keep mixing without stop until the mixture gets heavy and dark brown and you notice that when you mix you can see the bottom of the pan. Once done, transfer the mixture to a buttered plate and let it cool.
Apply butter to hands so that it is easier to roll the chocolate into little balls. Grab a small portion of the mixture and roll it using hands to give it its round shape. Once done, roll the brigadeiros in the chocolate sprinkles or shred chocolate and serve them in the cupcake liners. It will give you around 30 to 40 truffles.
Is this sweetened condensed milk?
I have conferred with the recipe guru on the behalf of this excellent question and YES…. it is sweetened condensed milk. I am going to edit the recipe on behalf of Mariuska and note the change. Thank you for asking the question.
