Thanksgiving 2023 and the sister in law has a recommendation for an appetiser that I will present at the 11 am snack and munchie time. The classic combo of brie cheese on a sliced baguette with cranberry sauce and a touch of orange zest. Always a delicious treat and easy to assemble if you are on the move . Let’s make some of these holiday classic appetizers. You can put these out before, during or after the meal. Great with a hot apple cider or a evening nip at the home bar.
1 baguette, thinly sliced (Sam’s Club is my go to baguette supplier)
olive oil
1 wedge brie cheese
½ cup whole cranberry canned sauce
2 tbsp fresh orange zest
¼ cup walnuts, roughly chopped (I will toast the walnuts to bring out the flavor and allow the oil to come to the surface)
Coarse sea salt
Ground black pepper
fresh thyme and rosemary sprigs (optional)

Heat oven to 400°F.
Prepare a baking sheet with a parchment paper liner
Place baguette slices on the baking sheet and drizzle lightly with olive oil.
Lightly salt and pepper the baguette
Toast baguette slices for 7-8 minutes or until golden brown just forming around the edges
Walnut toasting instructions
Spread walnuts on another baking sheet and toast until fragrant, about 8 minutes. Watch them carefully so they don’t burn!
Slice brie into very thin (about ¼ inch) pieces. Discard the rind if you don’t care for it. Place 1 piece of brie onto each toasted crostini and place back in the oven until brie is warmed and melted (about 5 minutes).
Remove from oven and top each crostini with 1-2 teaspoon cranberry sauce and a couple of toasted walnut pieces.
Sprinkle with orange zest and thyme and rosemary sprig(if using).
Serve immediately
